Nocturnus, “Droid Sector” - Pioneers in the realm of death metal with trippy keyboards, further defined by the gleaming metallic edges of technical riffage and rhythms, Florida’s Nocturnus were one of those ignored-in-their-time oddities that thrill cultists like myself. To further set them apart, although the lyrics on their debut were mostly your usual death metal violence and Christ-bashing, they also dipped a toe into technological terror, giving them a lasting sci-fi image. They also had a song about taking a time machine back to kill baby Jesus, so they tied their themes together well.
